Gary M. Hein has a diverse real estate practice representing owners and developers locally and nationally in the acquisition, construction, leasing, management, financing and disposition of all types of commercial real property, with an emphasis on office buildings, industrial, multi-family, hotels, retail and shopping centers. He also represents corporate clients in a wide range of important business transactions, including sales, services, partnering and licensing agreements, stock and asset purchase agreements, internal contracting policy and governance related matters.

Mr. Hein recently was involved in the negotiation and documentation of a joint venture agreement, limited liability company operating agreement, and development agreement involving the City and Port of Oakland, a local real estate developer and a foreign capital partner regarding a large multi-family, retail and public open space development project located on the Oakland waterfront.

Mr. Hein has considerable experience in negotiating, documenting, restructuring and enforcing commercial leases. He has represented the owner of a Class A 375,000 square foot office building in the East Bay in all of its leasing and related matters, in addition to landlords and tenants in office, retail, mixed use and industrial properties both locally and nationally.

He recently represented the landlord and general partnership owner of a 225,000 square foot manufacturing facility and office complex in Texas in a commercial arbitration dispute, winning a large award for his client against the tenant for breach of the lease, payment of back rent, and declaration of future rent during the remaining lease term.

Mr. Hein graduated from The University of California Berkeley with a bachelor degree in Social Science/Modern Corporations, having served as captain on both Cal’s football and rugby teams. He received his Masters in Jurisprudence from Oxford University in England, where he also won two Varsity Blues on the rugby pitch against Cambridge University.
